Privacy Policy

Last updated: February 2026

Drafthouse ("we", "us", or "our") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and share information when you use our screenplay writing platform. By using Drafthouse, you agree to the practices described in this policy.

1. Information We Collect

  • Profile photo (if provided)
  • Password (stored as a hashed value — never in plain text)
  • Account preferences and settings

Content You Create

  • Scripts, outlines, notes, and all project content
  • Characters, locations, props, and mood board items
  • AI chat history and prompts
  • Files and images uploaded to your projects
  • Forum posts, comments, votes, and group memberships
  • Your public forum handle and profile information

Usage & Technical Data

  • IP address and browser/device information
  • Pages visited and features used within the Service
  • Error logs and performance data
  • Subscription plan and billing history (payment details processed by our payment provider, not stored by us)

2. How We Use Your Information

  • To provide, maintain, and improve the Service
  • To authenticate your identity and manage your account
  • To process subscription payments
  • To send transactional emails (account verification, password resets, billing receipts)
  • To power AI features by passing your screenplay content to third-party AI APIs (see Section 6)
  • To display your script in the marketplace if you choose to publish it
  • To analyze usage patterns and improve product features
  • To comply with legal obligations

3. Data Storage & Security

Your data is stored in MongoDB Atlas hosted on cloud infrastructure (AWS). Uploaded files are stored in Amazon S3. We implement industry-standard security measures including:

  • HTTPS encryption for all data in transit
  • Bcrypt hashing for passwords
  • Signed, expiring URLs for file access
  • Access controls limiting which services can read your data

No method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure. While we take reasonable precautions, we cannot guarantee absolute security.

4. Sharing of Information

We do not sell your personal information. We may share your data with:

  • Service providers — cloud hosting, payment processing, email delivery, and AI APIs — only to the extent necessary to provide the Service
  • Team members — if you are part of a team, your name and email may be visible to team owners and admins
  • Other users via the marketplace — only the information you explicitly publish (title, logline, synopsis, genre, tags, contact preference)
  • Law enforcement or government bodies — only when required by law or to protect the rights and safety of users

5. Community Forum & Content Moderation

When you participate in the Drafthouse community forum, the following information is publicly visible to other users:

  • Your forum handle (if set) or display name
  • Posts, comments, and votes you create within forum groups
  • Groups you have created or moderate

To maintain a safe and respectful community, Drafthouse reserves the right to review forum content and user activity. We may use this information to:

  • Enforce our Terms of Service and community guidelines
  • Investigate reports of abuse, harassment, or other violations
  • Take enforcement actions including content removal, warnings, temporary suspensions, or permanent account bans
  • Maintain audit logs of moderation actions for accountability and dispute resolution

Drafthouse reserves the right to ban any user from the platform, including from the forum and all associated services, if we determine at our sole discretion that the user is not conforming with our rules, Terms of Service, or community guidelines. Banned users will be notified of the action taken. Forum content from banned accounts may be retained or removed at our discretion.

6. Cookies & Session Storage

We use cookies and local storage for:

  • Authentication — a session cookie to keep you logged in
  • Preferences — storing your theme (light/dark) and sidebar state
  • Security — CSRF tokens to protect form submissions

We do not use third-party advertising or tracking cookies.

7. AI & Third-Party Services

When you use AI features, portions of your screenplay content and prompts are sent to OpenAI's API to generate responses. By using AI features, you acknowledge:

  • Your content is transmitted to OpenAI's servers for processing
  • OpenAI's usage policies and privacy practices apply to that data
  • We do not use your content to train AI models
  • You can opt out of AI features by simply not using them

8. Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have the following rights:

  • Access — request a copy of the personal data we hold about you
  • Correction — request correction of inaccurate or incomplete data
  • Deletion — request deletion of your account and associated data
  • Portability — export your scripts at any time in PDF or FDX format
  • Restriction — request that we limit processing of your data
  • Objection — object to processing based on legitimate interests

To exercise any of these rights, contact us through the app settings or the email registered to your account. We will respond within 30 days.

9. Data Retention

We retain your account data and content for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we will delete your personal data within 30 days, except where retention is required by law (e.g., billing records). Uploaded files in S3 are deleted immediately upon project deletion or account deletion.

10. Children's Privacy

The Service is not directed to children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes by email or by posting a notice in the app. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page indicates when the policy was last revised. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.

12. Contact

If you have questions, concerns, or requests regarding this Privacy Policy or your personal data, please contact us through the app or at the email address associated with your account.
